Finding Inspiration in Texture

Abstract Color Texture

Lynn Fisher

"I used to decide what to paint; now I let the surface tell me what it is meant to be."

As a child, I saw hidden images in textured carpets, materials, and tiles. Today, that same sense of discovery drives my studio practice. Rather than imposing a subject on a blank canvas, I allow the surface to dictate its own identity. Through a process of layering, sanding, scraping, and distressing, I create a landscape of textures. Whatever emotion or imagery the result inspires in me is the subject that I paint. This process has culminated in my series, Isolation Through Textures.

Ultimately, my work serves as a cathartic exploration of my inner self, translating the

themes of social justice, loss, and isolation into original paintings.
